WWJD or HWJV

Many have seen the WWJD bracelets and other Christian paraphernalia. What Would Jesus Do? The question I have in the highly animated political season is How Would Jesus Vote? There are many in my life that are politically engaged. Truthfully I would be much more expressive of my own political ideas but I have been challenged to be more about the Kingdom than US politics. But I love the political battles. It is better than football. At least the candidates are hitting better than the KC Chiefs. Oh I’m sorry that was a little low even for me.

Do you think people would Vote Jesus if given the chance? I must be careful because some marketing person is coming up with pins and bumper stickers now. The truth is that Jesus did not enter the political arena when He walked this earth. He was preaching and bringing a Kingdom that was not of this world. Not to mention that we are not voters in the Kingdom but we are ‘the elect.’ Jesus told His follower that they did not choose Him but He chose them.

So would Jesus vote? I don’t know for sure. He told people to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s but that was more of a taxation issue. Paul told us to submit to our earthy authority, and in a democracy the voter is in a since the authority. I would think that Jesus would want us to vote. He would want us to do this prayerfully. But ultimately, He Jesus would tell us that the outcome of the election was not the basis for either hope or despair. He would say seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things (elections included) will be added to you.

Many have said that this is the most important election in our time. It is important I am sure, but no matter the winner God’s Kingdom is still advancing and I want to be one of the ones who will lay hold of this Kingdom.

Just a thought!

Matt
