I was skeptical when I heard that we were going to the place where Jesus was baptized. However, as I traveled down the path in silence a hush came over my Spirit. I felt like I truly was standing in a holy place.

This is a place where it is believed Jesus was baptized. Constantine’s wife Helen was instrumental in locating the exact place. Here a church was built Notice from the picture it is built in the shape of a cross. The Jordan river has relocated over the years. And due to flash flooding the church was swept away, only to be built again on at the same location up to five times. Excavation shows the different types of stone used in each building. The logical conclusion is that because of the great importance of this site the church kept being built.

This was just opened in the past few years. The natural question is why not sooner. This place was a part of the militarized zone for decades since the 1967 war. It was covered with land mines. But now with the peace agreement between Jordan and Israel this site is open to the public.

A curator of sorts of the site spoke passionately about this place. He said, “Consider that the Son of the Most High God sent his Son to the lowest place on earth. (The Dead Sea is423 metres (1388 ft) below sea level, the lowest elevation on the Earth’s surface on dry land.) This is where our faith starts. At the lowest place. Jesus humbled himself. He showed the better way.

It is from the lowest place that God shows His great pleasure. When Jesus humbled himself the Father said: This is my Son in whom I am well pleased.” .

It is from the lowest place that the Spirit descends.

Let us be willing to go to the lowest place , there God will find you and me.

  1. You are like a poet. Love it. Knowing that reminds me of how much God loves me. It reminds me how we have to wipe our babies pooh pooh butt, or be willing to get a second job to get our kids through school. We get low everyday but God does it without complaining, without asking why, and without hesitation. Thanks for keeping us posted. Be safe and God bless you.
