Matthew 26:14-16, 47-50 (NIV)
Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
Then one of the Twelve—the one called Judas Iscariot—went to the chief priests and asked, “What are you willing to give me if I deliver him over to you?” So they counted out for him thirty pieces of silver. From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.
Jesus Arrested
While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him. Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.” Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him.
Have you ever experienced betrayal by a trusted friend or family member? What a comfort it is to know that we’re not alone in the midst of our pain! Before Jesus was sent to be crucified, He had to experience what many of us have experienced in our own lives – betrayal. Indeed, it was the very pathway that God used to send Jesus to the cross. Pick up a coin and place it in your bag to remind you of the betrayal of Jesus.
In the midst of the pain that comes with unfaithfulness or disloyalty, be encouraged to know that healing can be found when we turn to Him. The God of the Universe, who knows each star in the sky by name, knows each of US by name and what we are experiencing in our daily lives.
If you are feeling the hurt of betrayal from a friend or family member or marriage partner or know of someone that is hurting in this way, please take a moment to pray for healing in your spirit or theirs. You are never alone!
